Iki Restaurant Vienna

Iki meaning “challenging, but not over-saturated, innocent but not naive” is the ideal definition of my favourite new restaurant in Vienna. A sister restuarant of the popular Mochi (which is always booked out) is a hidden gem. Recently opened in my hood close to Belvedere and the new Erste campus next to Haupbahnhoff. Only open Monday through to Friday. It’s the perfect mid-week spot.

The menu is small. But every item is amazingly prepared and delicious. They do a daily bento box lunch special for the working crowd.  Delightful appetiseres including my all time favourite of edamame seasoned with rock salt and horseradish which is to die for. Donburi rice dishes. Noodle soups and the best sushi roles in Vienna hands down.

Above is the spicy tuna roll with salmon tartar, chilli mayo, avocado, cucumber and cress.

And below is the best thing that ever happened to me – The surf & Turf sushi roll.

It’s sooooooooooo good. I want to marry it. Make love to it. Name my child after it. We are talking tempura shrimp with beef carpaccio. Avocado & cucumber dressed in a truffle mayo teriyaki sauce.

So beautifully and precisely prepared like all good sushi should be. One is not enough of these. I swear I could eat 20 of these sushi rolls in one sitting.

The atmosphere is incredibly warm and inviting. While remaining slightly industrial which is a great juxtaposition of the restaurants design. Huge open windows The space is large and generous. They even have theatre seating in the back which is original. The staff are super friendly and accommodating. The light fixtures are giving me lighting goals.

My guess is that very soon this place will be harder to get into then a nuns panties. So check it out soon before the masses congregate and your waiting an hour for a table.
